Study Skills Workshops

ATTENDING A StudyEdge workshop helps students develop the independent study skills to stay on top of homework, assignments, projects, revision and preparing for assessments, tests and exams. Students are empowered to manage their independent study time well and work enthusiastically, consistently and confidently to achieve personal academic and career goals.

The workshop introduces the study techniques used by highly successful students. For example reading using SQ3R, applying a step-by-step process for written work, staged revision using index cards and other techniques, note taking, memorising with acronyms and acrostics, exam-taking skills and simple but powerful techniques for managing personal time, concentration and energy.

The StudyEdge workshop inspires students to:

• Experience learning as rewarding and enjoyable.
• Use their limited study time more efficiently.
• Overcome procrastination, fear and negativity.
• Maintain and manage energy and concentration.
• Understand and exploit their learning preferences.
• Improve reading skills and boost comprehension.

StudyEdge material has been designed to meet the needs of secondary school students in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Developed and extensively trialled during 2009, it inspires and empowers students to become confident and successful independent learners.

Plan a StudyEdge Workshop at your school

Now you can arrange for the StudyEdge seminar to be delivered to your students, at your school. Your StudyEdge school seminar will be presented by Dr Bruce Johnstone, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and the UK-based university lecturer who created the StudyEdge course.

Your seminar can be delivered in a variety of formats, including a three hour session held on a Saturday morning and offered to students and their parents as an option.

The StudyEdge school workshop introduces students to a new UK school version of the StudyEdge Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), which includes a series of animated audio visual presentations and a wealth of supporting material.

The StudyEdge VLE is a comprehensive and growing e-learning resource designed to support students of different levels of ability in the development of excellent study techniques. Your students will benefit from free access to these online resources for one year.
